The Port of Trier is located right in the geographical heart of Europe and the flourishing greater region SaarLorLux which covers more than 65.000 qkm between the rivers Rhine, Moselle, Saar and Meuse. About 11.2 million people – about 3% of the inhabitants of all 15 EU member states – live, work and operate here.

Located directly in the centre, the Port of Trier forms the junction of all infrastructural and traffic arteries that connect the region's cargo transport throughout Europe and the world. Waterways, road and railway traffic on the north-south as well as on the east-west-axis intersect in the area around the Port of Trier. These conditions constitute the Port of Trier as a trimodal traffic junction  unique in Rhineland-Palatinate and the greater region SaarLorLux. It merges Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg to a common, transnational economic area with a promising future.
